Congratulations Maine Recycles Video Contest Winners!
Congratulations to the winners of the Maine Recycles Video Competition! Thirty-five schools submitted over 127 entries, representing the work of nearly three-hundred students. Although we’ve selected a list for Honorable Mention, there were many more that were excellent in their own right. Thank you to all contest participants for your amazing work and help to promote recycling in Maine. Special thanks to Time Warner for their generous sponsorship and support. There were countless things they did to make the contest more fun!
2008/2009 Maine Recycles Video ContestBinny Awards Video Contest Announces Winners
Winners of the Maine Recycles Video Contest (MRVC) were announced Saturday, March 14 at an event held in their honor at the Maine State Museum. Nearly 60 attended, representing students and their schools from around the state.
The competition challenge was to create a 30-second video encouraging residents to recycle more and throw away less. Over 127 videos from 35 schools competed. The winner will be aired as a public service announcement on Time Warner Cable stations across Maine. Additionally, a top-20 video compilation will be distributed to Maine’s community access television stations. Jetta Antonakos, SPO, and Peter DeWitt, representing Time Warner Cable and the Maine Recycles Campaign Steering Committee, awarded the prizes. Here is a list of winners:
College High School Category
First Place - $500, plus a $1,000 school technology grant Recycling Works for Me, Sy Cody White, New England School of Communications
won based on composition, technical quality, community involvement, and communication of campaign message, “Recycling Works!”
Second Place- $250 It’s Simple,
Central Area Technical Center,
Harlow Waltz, David Caldwell Judges appreciated it’s simple, clean story.
People’s Choice - $250 Don’t Cheat on Recycling,

Most Outrageous, Most Artsy - It’s Sexy, Bangor High School, Dan Bullard, Jen Pittis, Jordan Stewart, Brandi Edgecomb, Bo Yei, Laura Hosmer,Carolyn Smith, Taylor Wicks, Garrett Allard, Hannah Bambrick, Mike Correll, Kristin Spellman. This video was the semi-finalist and prestigious runner-up in the popular vote. You gotta’ love these guys. Kudos to the creativity, talent and fine work by this team.
