Virta Responsible Prescribing - New as of July 1, 2026:

Effective July 1, 2026: State of Maine Health Plan Members with GLP-1 prescriptions for weight loss are required to enroll in Virta Health and receive their GLP-1 prescription from a Virta provider to maintain coverage. 

To maintain coverage of your GLP-1 medication prescribed for weight loss, you must act by 10/30/2026. This change applies only to GLP-1 medications prescribed for weight loss. Once you apply, this process can take 1–3 weeks. Virta will review your medication history and create a personalized care plan, so enroll now to avoid any gaps in GLP-1 coverage. After 10/30/2026, prescriptions for GLP-1 medications for weight loss filled outside of Virta will not be covered under the State of Maine Health Plan, and the member is responsible for the full out-of-pocket cost.

When you join, you’ll:

• Work closely with your Virta care team, as well as your existing Provider, to safely adjust medications, if clinically indicated to be safe.
• Explore nutrition-based approaches that may reduce or replace medication.
•  Continue GLP-1 utilization if you, your Provider, and your Virta Care Team, together through shared decision making, determine that continuation of medication therapy is right for you.

Virta Health programs are available to State of Maine Health Plan members and their eligible dependents aged 18+ who are active on the State of Maine Health Plan and meet eligibility requirements.
