Below are the steps for a regular service retirement
- Decide when you expect to retire
- Contact the Maine Public Employees Retirement System ("MainePERS")
- Request a Benefit Estimate 6 to 12 months before you expect to retire
- Download or request a Retirement Application Package
- Choose a retirement date
- Complete your completed Retirement Application and file it with MainePERS at least 3 months before you retirement date
- Set up direct deposit for your MainePERS pension & benefit payments.
- You may receive a preliminary benefit while your MainePERS application is being reviewed
- If you plan to return to work after retirement, please check the requirements on the MainePERS website
- Eligibility to continue Basic Group Life Insurance
- Contact your local Social Security Administration Office

- Contact the Office of Employee Health and Wellness
- Schedule an appointment to meet with your Benefits Specialist approximately one month prior to your retirement date. (207) 624-7380 or 1-800-422-4503
- Complete the necessary forms to either enroll or decline insurance coverage

- Notify the Human Resources personnel for your department
