Teacher of the Year Program

Maine TOY LogoThe Maine Department of Education's Teacher of the Year program is part of The National Teacher of the Year Program, the country's most prestigious teacher recognition program.

As part of Maine's program, sixteen County Teachers of the Year and one State Teacher of the Year are recognized yearly. Each of the Teachers of the Year (both County and State) serves as an exemplar of the teaching profession. During their year of service, they are provided with opportunities to advocate for their students, their communities, and topics in education that are important to them, along with a network of educators who support one another through professional learning and grassroots efforts to improve education in Maine.

The Maine Department of Education’s Teacher of the Year Program is administered through a collaborative partnership with Educate Maine
