Integration of Literacy and Neuroscience Home Page

Welcome to the Integration of Literacy and Neuroscience Home Page

The Interdisciplinary Instruction team has developed the open-source resources below to provide for the implementation of literacy comprehension strategies that enhance students' engagement, discourse, and depth of understanding. These integrated literacy resources are organized on the Active View of Reading (AVR) model, which is based on current reading science and neuroscience.

Since many educators are more familiar with Scarborough's Rope, these resources will make direct connections between Scarborough's Rope and the Active View of Reading. The AVR includes two newer sections: active self-regulation and bridging processes, which influence word recognition and language comprehension. Although Scarborough's Rope includes elements of these sections, the Active View of Reading separates them to make the model more actionable for educators. To learn more about the AVR model, visit our Active View of Reading webpage.
