Scams

Anyone can fall victim to a scam. All scammers have an agenda: to gain access to your personal information, and defraud you out of your hard-earned money/savings or property. Losing money to a fraud or scam can be financially and emotionally devasting, and very difficult to recover from.

Consumers fall prey to scammers for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it’s a matter of timing. Perhaps the victim was going through a rough patch and the call or email arrived at the right moment. Others respond to seemingly legitimate opportunities, or genuinely want to help a person in need. Most scams don’t succeed because the victims are gullible. They succeed because the scammers are organized, practiced, and ruthless. They know what to say to get you to act.For a scam to be successful, it needs willing victims. If a consumer isn’t willing to participate, there’s little a scammer can do to force them.
