Fortify Maine Homes Program

The Fortify Maine Homes program will provide financial assistance to help eligible Maine homeowners replace the roof on their primary residence.

The program will initially focus on Maine regions that have experienced the most impact from severe storms in recent years. The counties selected for the pilot phase are: York, Cumberland, Kennebec, and Penobscot. The program will expand statewide at a later date.

The program is not accepting applications at this time.

Homeowner Requirements

  • Must be a Maine resident and the home that will have its roof replaced must be the owner’s primary residence.
    • Camps, seasonal residences, condominiums, and rental properties are not eligible.
  • Must maintain homeowners insurance.
  • If living in a flood plain, must also maintain flood insurance.
  • The home – with possible exception of the roof – must be structurally sound.
  • One grant per homeowner.

Grant Amounts

  • Standard grants up to $10,000 per home
  • Enhanced grants up to $15,000 per home – based on homeowner’s enrollment in SNAP or MaineCare.

Please note that grant funds will not be provided directly to the homeowner. The amount awarded will be paid to the roofer/roofing company after successful project completion and final inspection.
