The Cultural Building, which houses the Maine State Archives (MSA), Maine State Library (MSL), and Maine State Museum (MSM), is closed to the public for the foreseeable future to allow significant upgrades to the facility’s mechanical systems. Maine State Archives is currently open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We are open to the public by appointment only. Please call 207-287-5790 and we will be happy to assist you.

Research Room (Archives Services): The Archives Services Division is responsible for preserving and providing access to the State’s historic records. Researchers can submit requests remotely or conduct research in-person at the Research Room. To contact the Research Room, email maine.archives@maine.gov or call 207-287-5790.
Records Management: The Records Management Division is responsible for establishing and administering efficient and effective records management programs within State and local government agencies. They ensure records are retained properly through records retention schedules. The Division conducts training and creates publications to assist government agencies in meeting general records management requirements.
