The North Hampton Public Library, a vibrant library located on the seacoast of New Hampshire, is seeking an enthusiastic, organized and creative Youth Librarian to join our team!

About the Library:

NHPL is a busy but friendly library serving a close-knit community. We offer a wide range of programs and resources for patrons of all ages, with a particular focus on fostering a love of reading and learning in our younger patrons. Our youth department is a popular and busy area of the library and we have a beautiful space and wonderful resources to offer our visitors.

About the Role:

The Youth Librarian plays a vital role in creating a welcoming and engaging space for children and young adults. You will develop and implement engaging programs, curate a dynamic collection of materials, and connect with young patrons and their families.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead story times, book clubs, and other age-appropriate programs for children and young adults.
  • Collaborate with teachers and community organizations to expand outreach efforts.
  • Maintain and develop the youth collection, staying current on trends and interests.
  • Promote library services and resources to parents, caregivers, and educators.
  • Assist with reference services for children and young adults.
  • Organize and maintain the children's and young adult sections of the library.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Library Science and two years experience in childrens library services. Equivalent combination of training and experience that provides similar knowledge, ability and skills may be considered.
  • Experience working with children and young adults in a library setting or similar environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong storytelling and public speaking abilities.
  • Ability to plan and implement creative and engaging programs.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a passion for fostering a love of reading.
  • Familiarity with children's literature and young adult fiction.
  • Experience with technology and a willingness to learn new library systems is preferred.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Normal office environment
  • Regular interruptions to assist staff or public
  • Consistently required to use computer or telephone, necessitating eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity
  • Regularly required to move, drive, bend, and reach.

Compensation and Benefits:

$48,000 - $50,000/year, depending on qualifications benefits, including health insurance and dental and pto.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. Some evening and Saturday hours are required.
