Tween/Teen Librarian Job Description:

The Jay-Niles Memorial Library seeks to balance books and literature with technologies that support education and life-long learning including STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) resources. To that end, we seek a candidate who has a broad knowledge of tween (ages 9-12) and teen (young adult) literature and existing and emerging technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts tween (ages 9-12) and teen programs and services of the library under the supervision of the library director.
  • Performs additional library duties as assigned by the library director.

Hours:

The Tween/Teen Librarian will work hours as assigned by the library director. Hours may be assigned outside of the library hours for outreach to area schools or for programs scheduled outside of regular library hours.

Candidates for this position must:

  • Have a working understanding of technology.
  • Be familiar with the concept of Makerspace and be willing to promote it.
  • Be willing to do outreach in the community.
  • Be able to organize, plan, and conduct programs for tween and teens throughout the year.
  • Be able to organize, plan, and run a Summer Reading Program for tweens and teens.
  • Compile statistics of programs held throughout the year.
  • Have strong social media skills and understand virtual communication tools (Facebook Live, Zoom, etc.)
  • Plan and conduct book groups for young people as interest dictates.
  • Create displays of tween and teen materials in a manner that promotes reading and the library.
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with the public, creating a welcoming environment for young people (and all library patrons).
  • Assist tweens and teens (and their parents) in finding materials that fit their interests and needs.
  • Have experience working in a library and/or other experience working with young people.

Physical Demands:

The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Salary: 10-15 hours/week @ $16.52/hr
