1:1 Personal Computing Devices

MLTI 2.0’s computer and software component provides an annual financial allocation to eligible units for the purchase of computers/equipment. The computer allocation is an annual financial allocation to eligible units based on the number of publicly-funded attending students and their teachers. This component of the MLTI 2.0 program provides direct financial support to eligible units to help maintain technology tools that create the best learning environment for empowering students as global citizens.

MLTI 2.0 Program Definitions- The Basics

MLTI 2.0 Implementation Year

July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022

MLTI 2.0 Eligible Units

Any school unit, public and approved private, is eligible to receive a computer allocation for publicly funded attending student counts. During the MLTI 2.0 implementation year, 2021-22, the grades eligible for a computer allocation will/are 7th and 8th grade students and their classroom teachers. In the following years an allocation will be provided for one grade level.

Computer Allocation Calculation

The computer allocation is based on attending student counts for each school unit. The computer allocation calculation will be:

Number of attending students + eligible teachers = total number of allocations

Total number of allocations * computer allocation amount $ = unit’s computer allocation

Computer Allocation Amount

Annually, the Maine Department of Education will provide a device allocation for MLTI 2.0 schools. The allocation amount must be used toward the purchase of devices from the MLTI 2.0 approved device list. MLTI 2.0 will pay each vendor directly, on behalf of the eligible unit, a maximum of the unit’s annual computer allocation. Any amounts exceeding the computer allocation amount will be invoiced to the eligible unit.  SAUs will be able to purchase additional devices off the negotiated contracts, at their own cost. The device allocation amount is $459 per eligible student and staff. The key components of the device allocation of MLTI 2.0 are as follows:

Attending Student Count: Due to fluctuations in student populations throughout SY 20/21 caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of public funded students certified for October 1 in NEO will be compared to the April 1 reported data to provide the most up to date student data for each eligible unit for the implementation year (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022).

Eligible Staff: MLTI 2.0 provides a device allocation for eligible staff, including technology directors, and staff positions who provide instruction to student students in participating grades including classroom educators, library media specialists, ESOL teachers, GT teachers, instructional coaches, literacy specialists, special education teachers, technology integrator coordinators, as provided in NEO staff module on March 8, 2021.
