DHHS Announces Ian Yaffe as Next Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

As the largest Department in State government that serves one in three Maine residents, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is committed to removing barriers to services for various populations, improving equitable outcomes, and making working in and with DHHS a positive experience for people of all cultures, races, ethnicities, and identities. To this end, Ian Yaffe will become the next Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) for the Department on January 30. 

Reminder for Billing Attending Provider on UB-04 and 837I Claims, CR 110840

This is a reminder that the attending provider is required on all UB-04 and 837I claims.  Effective April 1, 2023, MaineCare will deny UB-04 and 837I claims submitted without an enrolled attending provider.

The attending provider is the individual who has overall responsibility for the patient’s medical care and treatment reported in the claim/encounter. The attending provider requirement includes all claim submission methods (paper, HealthPAS Online Portal, or 837I).

Rounding Rule Enforcement Discretion

On May 29, 2022, MaineCare adopted changes to the rounding rule in Chapter I, Section 1.03-8(J), effective January 1, 2023. In response to provider feedback, MaineCare will exercise discretion in its enforcement of the new rounding rule until April 1, 2023, to give providers additional time to implement necessary system changes. Any providers holding claims because their systems are not compliant with the rounding rule may release those claims.

CoverME.gov Concludes Second Open Enrollment Period as Maine’s State-Based Health Insurance Marketplace Maintaining Gains in Coverage

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Office of the Health Insurance Marketplace (OHIM) announced today that during the Open Enrollment Period for 2023 coverage, which ran from November 1, 2022, through January 15, 2023, 63,388 Maine people selected affordable health insurance plans at CoverME.gov, Maine’s Health Insurance Marketplace. Among Maine consumers who selected plans, 10,168 were new consumers who were not enrolled in Marketplace insurance prior to open enrollment.
