Software/Internet Tutor
Time Commitment
1-3 hours, weekly, 3 month commitment
Purpose
To provide one-on-one instructions with the patrons in basic use of the Internet, the library's online catalog system, online databases, and Microsoft Office and/or Open Office. This volunteer teaches basic computer skills to adult learners, including how to navigate the Web and use a Web-based email account.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Instructs patrons in the basic use of the Internet
- Instructs patrons in the basic use of the library catalog
- Instructs patrons in the basic use of MARVEL! Maine?s online electronic resource
- Instructs patrons in the basic use of Microsoft Office and/or Open Office.
- Instructs patrons in setting up and using a Web-based email account.
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons and other volunteers
- Ability to instruct clearly in basic computer use, using the simplest, non-technical language
- Ability to exercise patience and understanding in working with both beginners and intermediate computer users
- Familiarity with Internet searching
- Familiarity with either Microsoft Office and/or Open Office
- Familiarity with the library's online catalog
- Ability to learn to navigate through the MARVEL! databases
- Familiarity with Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo mail
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies and procedures
