Wild Atlantic Salmon Restoration Project Reaches a Milestone

With the recent release of three hundred mature Atlantic salmon into the upper reaches of the East Branch of the Penobscot River, the state of Maine has taken another step forward in its effort to restore the critically endangered species. 

The release was a milestone in a three-year project designed to increase the number of Atlantic salmon that spawn in the favorable habitat of the East Branch.

Scallop License Lotteries to Accept Applications Starting at Noon Today, October 3rd

The Department of Marine Resources is announcing the annual lotteries for scallop drag and scallop diver (handfishing) licenses. Based on licenses retired in 2021, the Department is making available 6 drag licenses and 5 diver licenses for 2022.

The Department will begin accepting applications today October 3, 2022 at noon, and the lotteries will remain open until Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 4:30 pm.
