To complete the renewal process, you need:
- Proof of your physical address in Maine if your current address is not already on file,
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or of your legal presence in the U.S.
- A vision screening if applicable, and
- A Social Security Number1 on file
- Your Social Security Number will be used solely for identification purposes and will be kept confidential.
- If you do not qualify for a Social Security Number, you must present an Unexpired Immigration Document or a written statement from the Social Security Administration.

According to the Federal Privacy Act of 1974, Section 7(b). Disclosure of your Social Security Number is mandatory and is required by 29-A MRSA Section 1301(6) to apply for or renew a driver's license or non-driver identification card.
