IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING STATE GOVERNMENT CLOSURE

In observance of Independence Day, the Bureau of Corporations, Elections & Commissions will be closed Thursday, July 4, 2024, AND Friday, July 5, 2024.

The Division provides administrative support and manages data for this program area for the Bureau. Dedimus Justices perform a single function under Maine statute, that of swearing in various public officials, including Notaries Public. The office is a lifetime appointment by the Governor.

Some Dedimus Justices charge between $1 and $50 for their services; most offer them free. Our office strongly suggests that you ask in advance whether there will be a charge.
