World War II - Europe

Wendell L. Hardison

My beloved father has passed away. He was a WWII US Army vet with the honors of purple heart and bronze star. He was in Hawaii when the bombs were dropped. He taught me to always honor our country and never take my freedom for granted. I respect all he and those who served and are serving have done for my freedom. I am so proud of my dad, he was a true war hero and will always be a hero in my heart. I love you and miss you dad.

Warrant Officer Carolyn Kroot

I am honoring the bravest and most honorable woman that I know. Because of her bravery during the Persian Gulf War, she initially reacted to save the life of a fellow comrade. The soldier was delivering ammo when his arm was partially severed from his body by shrapnel striking him. The explosion occurred due to his brakes catching on fire. Carolyn ran out of her tent after being on duty all night, tired and worn-out but in keeping her wits about her and her first aid training fresh to mind, she courageously applied pressure bandages to aid in saving this wounded soldier's life.

Thomas H. MacDonald

My father was in the Army Air Corp and served in Europe. He was a navigator on a bomber flying from Italy to bomb the city of Dresden, Germany. On his last mission in November 1944, his plane was shot down over Czechoslovakia. A farmer picked him up and brought him to a village office. The Germans sent SS officers to transport him to Berlin for interrogation. All of the soldiers on his plane made it home safely from the war though my father did not see any of them until many years later, in the 1990's in Florida (he had a ME FORMER POW license plate.

SSGT PETER P LAWRENCE

We as parents are very proud of your service in the Maine Army National Guard and your service to the war on terrorism in Iraq. You are a credit to the service and we thank you for the time you spent over in Kuwait. God Bless you and each one who have served and defended their country and to the many who lost their lives trying to make this a better world.

Ryan Michael Celli

Knowing we were at war after 9/11, Ryan joined our armed forces. He like all our other soldiers made a decision to stand on a line and face our enemies "so that our government; of the people, for the people, and by the people shall not perish from this earth." Gettysburg Address by: Abraham Lincoln.
